Global Citizenship Litter & Waste

We have started working towards earning our 6th Green Flag.

The theme for our next flag is Global Citizenship Litter & Waste and basically this means that we are asked to examine how our consumption habits (i.e. what we buy, what we eat and what we throw away) affect other parts of the world.

We will be looking back on previous themes to check that we are continuing the good work started.

We commenced this year by conducting surveys in our school and homes and in the wider community to see how much we know about the new theme

We will follow up on this by educating ourselves and our families on such topics as:

  • How we could reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill

  • How we manage our recyclable waste

  • What the buying habits of the school/home are – do we know much about Fairtrade/ethical consumption

  • Life in different cultures around the world

  • How we support less well-off countries

  • Sustainable development – nothing goes on lasting forever so we need to show responsibility

  • Global citizenship- fostering a sense of responsibility towards the planet and creating active concern and empathy towards others across the globe

We have had our first day of action which was a very successful litter-pick in the local area and next year we will be doing a day centred on the global theme of the flag.

Our Green-Schools committee has been elected and will be working hard in order to become the driving force of all endeavours.
