Our School

St. Brendan’s N.S, Clonfert is situated between Eyrecourt and Banagher. It is 8km away from Banagher and is 5km away from Eyrecourt. There are sixty students on roll this year (2019-20). We have three teachers in mainstream classes, a resource teacher, a learning support teacher and a secretary.

To the front of the school, we have a staff room/GP room, and an office. In the GP room, we have state of the art PE equipment. Our school is comfortable and modern. As you enter the school you would be amazed by the superb artwork done by all the children.

The school’s main sports are hurling and football. Outside there is a large playground, two sports pitches, a garden and a basketball court. For hurling, camogie and football, we are trained by teachers and visiting coaches. Near the end of every year, we have a sports day. We also have a Speech and Drama teacher who visits the school every Wednesday.

Working Together

Clonfert National School is noted for its warm, friendly atmosphere. Led by Principal Ms. Kilmartin, we work hand-in-hand with our Board of Management which comprises church, school, parental and community members who meet regularly to devise policies and procedures.

We welcome and encourage parental involvement in their children’s education. We believe parents complete the essential triangle of child-school-home, working as a unit to develop a mutually positive relationship in which the children feel safe and secure and enjoy the benefits of a fully supportive school and home life. Our Local Area

Our Lady of Clonfert

In St. Brendan’s Church, directly opposite the school, the statue of Our Lady of Clonfert stands. Our Lady is the focus of great devotion and the 1st May signals the beginning of a month-long pilgrimage.

Clonfert Cathedral

Clonfert Cathedral is located approximately 2km from our school. It is a beautiful cathedral that boasts an elaborate Romanesque doorway and is only a short distance from the River Shannon. The area was once a centre of learning when St. Brendan the Navigator founded a monastery there. When he died around 584 AD his remains are said to have been buried here.
